On display now in WSD’s Central Office is, “A Journey Through WSD K-12 Art Curriculum”

It is important to WSD that children study the arts for many reasons:

The arts have intrinsic value;

Studying the arts enhances the study of other subjects;

Studying the arts develops important ways of knowing and understanding the world.

Our K-12 curriculum combines aspects of the Visual Arts Standards defined by the Maine Learning Results as well as the National Core Art Standards developed by the National Art Education Association. WSD's district standards are grouped into 5 categories: Literacy; Creation; Creativity; Aesthetics; Connections.
