This past weekend WHS Art teachers participated in The Da Vinci Initiative, a nonprofit, educational foundation with a mission for enhancing visual literacy in the contemporary world. WHS Teachers highlight the The Da Vinci Initiative as a wonderful platform for engaging in conversations regarding best-practice in art education because of the belief that art CAN be taught and that teaching skill CAN enhance student creativity.
Along with the many benefits of skill-based training in art teaching and learning, we engage most with the notion of visual Intelligence. By teaching students how to break objects down and reconstruct them in a different dimension, students gain advancement in their visual perception and therefore their visual intelligence is increased.
